About Us

Locals helping build a vibrant community

Celia Ruane and Anya Vitali are Uptown locals who love spending time in Basque Park and saw its potential as a community gathering place, initiating and developing this relaxed summer event series.

This popular park already draws many local workers and residents for morning walks, lunchtime breaks and late afternoon and weekend gatherings, with its natural amphitheatre, shady trees, stone sculptures, and winding paths.

After years of nearby infrastructure works, the Basque Park Summer Series is also a way to encourage people to use the many easily accessible routes to the park and celebrate the creativity and diversity that make the Uptown precinct such a distinctive part of Auckland.

Drawing on her programming expertise from Cross St Festival and city-centre activations, Anya has curated an eclectic mix of musicians, DJs, and performers and workshops.

Celia has worked with local schools, community groups, and businesses to shape a varied programme of fun activations and interaction opportunities for all ages.

So bring a picnic blanket, your friends and whānau and settle in under the trees and enjoy a laid-back afternoon in this inclusive and creative community.

Brent Kennedy and the Uptown Business Association are generous supporters of the Basque Park Summer Series.

Located between New North Rd, Symonds St, Newton Rd and Ian McKinnon Dr, Basque Park is positioned to maximise public transport or active transport from neighbouring suburbs and further afield. We encourage visitors to consider walking, scootering or biking to the park. Maybe stop on the way and support one of the local businesses in Uptown by picking up some picnic treats to enjoy in the park!

Basque Park Summer Series is a free community event, supported by:
